Very Handy - Been using it to charge up some electronic items I brought back from the US and it does the job fine (certainly costs a lot less than if I d bought them over here, but that s another thing). Agree with the comments that it weighs a ton, but it s not really a problem - though can t comment on the power issues some have had as I ve only been using low current devices.
Crap... - I ordered this a while ago after getting a Japanese product which runs at nearly the same voltage (and within the range it says it is capable of).It worked for around 5 minuites and then died.I would not reccomend buying it!
Good if kept within limits... - I moved back to the UK from the US and purchased a few of these units.I ve blown up several of my units, as the wattage is not the only consideration - you have to consider the power of the item you are plugging in.If there was a replaceable fuse, then it would be great. However, there isn t, and the unit has special uni-directional screws so you can t get into it to even try to fix it.I ve still not worked out the power calculation - there s a fair bit on the internet about it, but err on the side of caution.Anything general electrical is fine, but if there s a motor involved of any sort, then you need to consider the power required. It s not just the wattage and average current.A great unit though, for the price. At least the unit dissolves before the attached electrical device does.
Just Right - I bought this product so I could use a lamp I bought in Japan (100v) in the UK. Although the general product description states it s for transforming 240v to 120v it specifies on the box that it actually transforms 220-240v to 100-120v and you do often need the 100v for Japanese products. Can t really fault the convertor - just plug it in, plug your appliance into it an that s it. Read a few reviews which stated it was quite big, but I thought it was pretty reasonable.
Burned out on a 35W device - My wife used this voltage converter with her 35W hair straighteners. The converter worked fine for 10 minutes and then burned out. I suspect this device is flaky if you go near the 45W limit for a sustained period of time.
